How to manage your kid's sleeping routine during summertime

With school being over and the longer days, kids tend to have more relaxed schedules. This can lead to shorter sleeping times due to the extended hours playing outside. But, having fewer sleeping hours can affect your little one’s health. Today we show you how to manage your kid’s sleeping routine during summertime.

First of all, keeping a consistent bedtime routine is essential to get your kid ready for sleep. Have a relaxing bath, change into pajamas, and read short stories to relax and set the mood for sleeping. Yet, it is important to remind the younger kids that bedtime is close even when it may still be light outside. Besides, promoting good physical activity during the day helps make them more sleepy.

Along with the bedtime routine, you must assure that their room is comfortable to sleep in. It has to be dark enough, cool, and quiet so they can avoid any sleep disruption. If you’re using the AC, make sure that they have some bedding they can use (or not) to regulate their body temperature. Pretty important too, avoid electronics at least 30 minutes before bedtime! The blue light might disturb their sleep.

If you’re having a family trip to some unknown place, or you´re sending the kids to a summer camp, allow them to take their own pillows or beddings. It can bring them comfort and calmness in new places. Also, if you´re traveling to a different time zone, take steps to deal with jet lag more easily. And make them go outside during sunny hours to regulate their sleep schedule.

Finally, when the summer is coming to an end, start adjusting your kid’s night routine back to when they are at school. You can start around one or two weeks before it starts, so they don’t have a hard time going back to it. And that´s how to manage your kid’s sleeping routine during summertime.
